Ukraine is the largest country in Europe and has many interesting geographical features. The northern part of the Carpathians extends across western Ukraine. It is the highest point in the country. Most of central Ukraine is covered by plateaus, fertile plains (grasses), hilly meadows and bushes. The coastal plains of the Black Sea cover the southern edge of the country. Ukraine is surrounded by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Important rivers are Desna, Dnieper, Dniester, Donets and Southern Bug. There are many waterfalls in the Carpathians and in the Crimea. The Dnieper is one of the largest rivers in Europe (fourth longest) and flows from Russia via Belarus and Ukraine to the Black Sea. The total length of the river is 2,285 kilometers.

Rakhiv is certainly the tallest city in Ukraine. Hidden in the dense Carpathian forests of western Ukraine, this mountain town is an ideal playground for nature lovers and hikers. Chernihiv was first mentioned in the "Russian-Byzantine Treaty" between Prince Oleh and Byzantium in 907, but the actual date of its foundation is unknown. In this treaty, Chernihiv is the second most important Ukrainian center after Kiev. Kamianets-Podilskyi in western Ukraine is best known as the Kamianets-Podilskyi Fortress. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why tourists visit this fairytale city. Odessa in southwestern Ukraine has an interesting story told by the many excellent museums. Today Odessa is a modern city with breathtaking Art Nouveau buildings, beautiful cafes and beautiful beaches.
