Marshall Island Map

The Marshall Islands consist of two island chains of the archipelago, which consist of 30 atolls and 1,152 islands. These two parallel groups - the "Rakak" chain and the "Ralik" chain. Marshall is located in the North Pacific and shares the maritime border with Micronesia and Kiribati. Two thirds of the country's population live in the major cities of Majuro and Ebeye. Due to lack of employment opportunities and economic development, the outer islands are sparsely populated. The country is about half way from Hawaii to Papua New Guinea. The terrain consists of coral limestone and sand islands. Natural resources include coconut products, seafood and deep-sea minerals. The current environmental problem is an inadequate drinking water supply, household waste and fishing boat emissions burden the Majuro Lagoon.
